Referendum on the Naubrücke in Laufen

The Naubrücke in Laufen is currently the subject of debate. A possible relocation is being discussed, which supporters justify with the bundling of road and rail traffic. This, they argue, would create the opportunity to establish a cohesive recreational and leisure area, while also enabling complementary uses in the fields of housing, work, recreation, and leisure. The canton, the municipality, and all political parties support the new route. Opponents, on the other hand, argue that complex engineering structures and additional construction would lead to significantly higher costs. According to them, the improvement of school route safety cited by supporters could also be achieved without relocation; a tunnel under the railway at the football field would be sufficient.
The president of the referendum committee and their supporters, who oppose the relocation, also fear that the canton is primarily aiming to relieve the town centre without providing Laufen with any real added value. Detailed information on the topic can also be found in last week’s article by the Basler Zeitung.
The vote on the planned project will take place on 30 November. We are already voting internally today – of course, voluntarily and anonymously. Anyone who wishes to participate can do so by simply clicking the link below…
PS: If the referendum is rejected, i.e., in the event that the Naubrücke is relocated, Blaser Architekten, as part of the ARX Group SA team, would take on the architectural services, which – subject to a positive vote – have already been committed.
