Kunsttage Basel

As part of Kunsttage Basel, SchauraumB, BachmannEckenstein | JapaneseArt and Galerie Freitag 18.30 have joined forces to present an exhibition exploring the intersection of architecture, spatial design and Japanese art.

At the heart of the exhibition is the work of Werner Blaser, the Swiss architect, photographer, author and furniture designer, who became particularly renowned for fostering dialogue between European and Japanese architecture. His engagement with Japan is one of the defining themes of his oeuvre and is reflected in photographs, furniture and artefacts. These are complemented by selected artworks from BachmannEckenstein | JapaneseArt Gallery and placed in an atmospheric dialogue with works by artist Sascha Berretz and lighting artist Stefan Lotze.

Entitled The Love Story. Werner Blaser & Japan, the exhibition is conceived as a tribute to Japanese aesthetics, architecture and craftsmanship. It is aimed at admirers of Japan, architects, design enthusiasts and anyone who appreciates the dialogue with Japanese aesthetics. On display are photographs, artefacts and publications, accompanied by a programme of related events. The exhibition is set within the distinctive Franck Areal, whose iconic silos and industrial spaces provide the perfect backdrop.

Note Alongside

the main exhibition, The Love Story: Werner Blaser & Japan, a complementary satellite exhibition will take place at the Tanzhaus (Magazin 3), directly opposite in the Silo building. The German Freitag 18.30 Gallery from Aachen presents Connections, featuring works by Sascha Berretz, created in part on the basis of photographs by Werner Blaser and accompanied by a light installation by Stefan Lotze.
