Falknerstrasse residential and commercial building

Falknerstrasse 35 is located in the heart of Basel's city centre between Barfüsserplatz and Marktplatz. Due to its location in the zone of buildings worthy of protection, Blaser Architekten proposed a new building whose external appearance respects the ensemble character of the rows of houses and their integration into the urban fabric, but whose interior develops a transparent permeability and spaciousness that is not possible in a historic old building.

In keeping with the attractive location, the building was developed as a modern residential and commercial building. On the lower and first upper floors, sales and service outlets have their own recognisable address and prestige. High-quality flats with an urban flair have been created on the top two floors. The floor plans offer a high degree of internal flexibility, so that users can contribute their own requirements in terms of space, size and fit-out. The guiding principle of the design was to create a building that is as continuous and open as possible, connecting the street space of Falknerstrasse, Weisse Gasse, Ringgässlein and Freie Strasse as well as the 'front and back' in equal measure.
