We chose this location for a very specific reason: we are currently involved in a wide range of projects along both rivers.
Along the Birs, we are renovating residential and workplace facilities for people on the autism spectrum for the Hirsacker Foundation in Liesberg. Also in Liesberg, we are working on a large single-family home at the very top of the Blauen mountain. In Laufen, construction is underway on a new climbing gym for the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) as part of the "Nau" bypass project. In Reinach, we are carrying out a conversion project for the pharmaceutical packaging company Allpack. At Spengler Park, we are involved in the final fit-outs of a total of 22,000 m² of rental space. And last but not least, in Birsfelden, we are eagerly awaiting the building permit for an 18-unit residential development on Birseckstrasse and hope that the objections will soon be withdrawn.
Along the Rhein, we are currently working on the preliminary design for the Hirslanden Klinik Stephanshorn in St. Gallen and are also overseeing the construction of a new cleanroom facility in Staad on Lake Constance. In Pratteln, construction has begun on the complete refurbishment of a residential development, while in the City of Basel we are planning the temporary facilities required for the renovation of the Kunstmuseum on St. Alban-Vorstadt and for works on Uferstrasse. Not far from the river, we recently completed the conversion of a new kiosk for a major Life-Science company.
As you can see, Rhein and Birs currently play a significant role in our work. That made this year's venue an easy choice: Parkcafé Galizi at the Birsköpfli. We believe it was an excellent decision. Especially during the hot summer weather, Galizi's open and relaxed atmosphere provided the perfect setting for an informal apéro and even the opportunity to cool off by dipping our feet in the river.
In any case, we would like to thank all our guests for joining us. We truly appreciated your company and are delighted that you «joined us». We will certainly be staying in and by the river.

What actually is... amock-up?Sketches, drawings,floor plans, 3D models - the language used by architectural designers tocommunicate visually is not always easy to understand right away in reality -after all, visualizations often only offer a perspective view and plans, gridsand the like must also be able to be read. And even if digitalization has longsince found its way into the field of construction (planning) and architecture,the implementation of a project and the end result is still a highly analoguematter that involves sensory perception. So what helps to illustrate ideas andpossible projects in the best possible way and to give clients, but also thecontractors, tradespeople and suppliers involved, a comprehensive picture ofwhat the future could look like? Exactly, a mock-up, i.e. a modelrepresentation on a scale of 1:1. The term mock-up has its origins in French(maquette) and means something like preliminary model, sketch or draft.
Pinterest, digital mood boards, Instagram, ChatGPT and other AI-powered research tools – the number of digital information platforms is vast, and they’ve become an integral part of our daily workflow.
And yet, our analogue architecture library possesses a unique power of its own. As a tactile archive of architectural history and a source of inspiration for future thinking, it remains a constant presence in our studio – sometimes used more, sometimes less, but always accessible.
Workplace Creation at Primeo AG through pioneering building technology with antique building material... Founded over 125 years ago, the Primeo Energie cooperative is headquartered in Münchenstein and reliably supplies over 180,000 households in Switzerland and France with energy. Under the motto ‘We bundle energy’, the infrastructure company focuses on the decarbonisation of the energy supply and offers intelligent, unique solutions in the areas of smart homes, sustainable mobility and energy efficiency. These are aimed at private and business customers as well as energy supply companies, cities and municipalities.
The topic of green roofs and biodiversity conservation in inner cities has gained increasing importance in recent years and is becoming a key component of sustainable urban planning. As an architectural practice, we regularly engage with this subject, for example through our work on the Stücki Park project on Hochbergstrasse. This provides good reason to take a closer look. In line with our credo “sharing experience”, we aim to gain deeper insights into why urban greening and bird conservation are so important and what role Basel plays in this context. We spoke with two experts on the subject. We begin with Dr. phil. nat. Jean-Pierre Biber from the Advisory Office for Bird Issues, Department for Nature and Landscape Conservation of the Canton of Basel-Stadt.
Our new blog format REVISITED takes a retrospective look at completed projects, offering an assessment of architecture as it is lived over time. We begin with a single-family home in Witterswil, completed in 2012. Situated at the edge of the building zone, the one-storey residence was realised as a densification of an existing plot and includes, in addition to the customary living areas, a slightly recessed studio space. The house was originally occupied by a couple to whom we have returned for a visit 13 years after their move-in.
