For thirty years, Blaser Architekten has been offering all services in the fields of space, architecture and general planning. We are active in all building typologies, as well as in different project sizes and mandate forms. Thanks to our experience, knowledge and activity in the field of construction, we are aware of our responsibility for economic, energy and social sustainability.
We pursue our endeavours in sustainability with the following attitude and actions:
Economy Property represents the greatest economic value in the world. With our work as architects and the high monetary turnover associated with it, we form the interface between the financiers and the companies and suppliers. The economic use of funds, for example, determines purchase prices and flat rents. All our projects pursue an economic use of funds in order to create and operate sustainable space. We act and operate independently in economic terms. We have achieved and managed our entire growth and infrastructure from our own resources without loans.
Energy and environment Building and space management account for around a third of the resources consumed on planet Earth. We therefore endeavour to optimise our own premises, as well as those that we plan and build, in order to cause as little damage as possible to the environment and nature, and we have equipped the entire roof of our office with a PV system. To supplement the heating, we use a wood-burning stove with wood from our own wood production. Our office is naturally ventilated and cooled, and when selecting the locations of our mandates, we pay attention to the geographical proximity to our architectural office. We get around the city by bike and e-bike, and our next car will be electric. Since the pandemic, we have done without all unnecessary printouts.
Sustainability has also found its way into our projects. The question of sensible consumption comes first. In the design and planning process, we incorporate the reuse of building components (circular construction), a sustainable choice of materials as well as efficiency, consistency and sufficiency wherever possible. In our planning, we pay particular attention to the issues of energy, water and wastewater, emissions, waste and mobility, as well as the smart operation of our buildings. We have a central office for sustainability development to acquire, disseminate and apply the necessary knowledge.
Society and social affairs As a company with forty employees, we are committed to social sustainability as an employer. We have always aimed for a high proportion of women, train apprentices to become draughtsmen and women specialising in architecture and offer internships for prospective architects. Equal opportunities, generational diversity and a good work-life balance are important to us. We have already offered many people the opportunity to return to work. Training and further education, equal opportunities and a flat hierarchy are anchored in our DNA and will remain so.

Auch wir bei Blaser Architekten befinden uns mitten in der digitalen Transformation aller Geschäftsabläufe und können von uns behaupten, dass wir bereits vieles umgesetzt haben. Die Digitalisierung ist aber kein Sprint, auch kein Marathon – viel mehr ein Weg, den wir nicht mehr verlassen werden. Laufend werden neue Tools entwickelt, KI wartet in immer kürzer zu werden scheinenden Intervallen mit neuen Möglichkeiten auf. Das bedeutet, dass wir die digitale Transformation nicht als Prozess verstehen, der nun bald abgeschlossen sein wird, sondern als selbstverständlich gewordener Teil unserer täglichen Aufgaben. Deswegen ist es uns wichtig, diesen Weg aufmerksam zu gehen, was heute möglich ist zu implementieren, aber auch neue Entwicklungen nicht zu verschlafen. Einer unserer Mitarbeitenden ist in diesem Thema besonders zuhause und legt sich dafür ins Zeug. Founded in 1993, our office can now look back on a career spanning more than 30 years. 30 years in which we have been able to implement a large number of exciting projects, gain experience and, last but not least, continuously develop ourselves. What has remained the same is the passion for our profession and the unconditional thirst for knowledge and the will to share it, because more than ever we believe that it is not about preserving know-how and experience, but about sharing and passing it on - this is the only way to create mutual exchange, progress and participation. Our company claim “sharing experience” is intended to fulfill this desire and is part of our relaunch, which we implemented on the occasion of our 30th company anniversary...
In the heart of the Gotthard massif lies the small village of Andermatt, which despite its striking location remained untouched by tourism for a long time. Thanks to a comprehensive tourism initiative by the major Egyptian-Montenegrin investor and developer Samih Sawiris, this has now changed and Andermatt has become an attractive destination for winter and summer visitors. We were also involved in this project and, as architect and general planner, have been responsible for getting the largest flat block there, Haus YARA, off the ground in recent months. Our guiding principle for this project was to combine tradition and modernity in order to create a harmonious whole between contemporary living and traditional architecture. MINERGIE certification, which was officially awarded the week before last, is also part of the concept.

Rückblick auf unser Podiumsgespräch im Klybeck Areal am 3. September 2024. Am 3. September 2024 fand im Klybeck Areal ein spannendes Podiumsgespräch statt, das sich mit der Frage beschäftigte, wie die Bauindustrie den Spagat zwischen politischem Mikromanagement und Europäisierung meistern kann. Gastgeberin auf dem Klybeck Areal war Anita Fetz, alt Ständerätin und Verwaltungsrätin der Rhystadt AG. Auf dem Podium waren Hans Peter Wessels, alt Regierungsrat Kanton Basel-Stadt, Gabriela Theus, Geschäftsführerin Immofonds Asset Management AG Zürich sowie Christian W. Blaser, Blaser Architekten Basel. Moderiert wurde das Podium von Manuel Hutter, Verwaltungsrat der Kontur Projektmanagement AG. Efficient, cost-effective and high-quality: our new-build project in Basel/Binningen with prefabricated façade elements. What convinced us... We are currently working on the construction of a new apartment block (MFH) in Basel/Binningen, where we are in the middle of the shell construction and suggested a kind of modular system to the client, more precisely the use of prefabricated façade elements.
We decided to work with ERNE AG Holzbau, which specialises in prefabricated façade systems. Together, we developed a combination of reinforced concrete ceilings with steel columns and non-load-bearing façade elements for our project. The following advantages drove us to pursue this concept:
A key benefit is the time factor: prefabricated façade elements are manufactured in the factory and can then be assembled on site, which significantly reduces the overall construction time. In addition, you are less dependent on favourable weather conditions, as it is more difficult to work in hail, snow or 35 degrees than under weather-independent conditions in the production hall, where the right tools, materials and expertise are always immediately available.
What actually is... amock-up?Sketches, drawings,floor plans, 3D models - the language used by architectural designers tocommunicate visually is not always easy to understand right away in reality -after all, visualizations often only offer a perspective view and plans, gridsand the like must also be able to be read. And even if digitalization has longsince found its way into the field of construction (planning) and architecture,the implementation of a project and the end result is still a highly analoguematter that involves sensory perception. So what helps to illustrate ideas andpossible projects in the best possible way and to give clients, but also thecontractors, tradespeople and suppliers involved, a comprehensive picture ofwhat the future could look like? Exactly, a mock-up, i.e. a modelrepresentation on a scale of 1:1. The term mock-up has its origins in French(maquette) and means something like preliminary model, sketch or draft.
