With over thirty years of experience, we now draw on a well-established network. Whether involving specialist planners, clients, or colleagues from other architectural firms, exchanging knowledge, experience, and ideas is a core aspect of our work and is reflected in our company credo, SHARING EXPERIENCE. One of our longstanding project partners is the architectural firm Butscher, with whom we have shared a partnership and office community at Austrasse 24 for twenty years.

This partnership began two decades ago when Novartis launched a general planning tender for various laboratory buildings on its campus. At that time, Blaser Architekten brought valuable experience in collaborating with renowned design architects from Japan, while Butscher Architekten contributed their expertise in large-scale project planning. Together, we successfully realized the Novartis building WSJ-155 on Fabrikstrasse from 2005 to 2009, under the leadership of the Japanese design architect Yoshio Taniguchi.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming architecture by autonomously conducting analyses, visualizations, and cost calculations, as well as creating texts, images, and floor plans. However, the creative expertise of architects remains essential. AI supports planners and architects in fostering innovative ideas but does not take over the detailed creation of executable construction plans. Although AI in architecture is still in its early stages, it already offers a variety of possibilities. The focus is on understanding AI as an additional tool that processes vast amounts of data, while true innovation remains a human endeavor. It is crucial to carefully examine and understand the impacts, opportunities, and challenges of AI in spatial planning.

The HORTUS office building, part of the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area – Main Campus, opened in June 2025. We are engaged in various tenant fit-out projects there, and the first of these is now complete.

The Hirsacker Foundation is a private foundation based in Liesberg, Canton of Basel-Landschaft. By public mandate, it offers places in "Supported Living" as well as in "Accompanied Day Structuring" specifically for people on the autism spectrum. Founded in 1987, more than 60 employees are currently dedicated to enabling clients to lead self-determined and fulfilling lives. Tailored to individual needs, the services include nature-oriented, manual, and creative activities that take place in a safe and supportive environment, focusing on joy of life, development opportunities, and social inclusion. Maintenance work that has become necessary is now being undertaken by Blaser Architects. This encompasses several properties of the Hirsacker Foundation, particularly the "Riederwald" residential building and the "Hirsacker" area. A first sub-project has already been completed, with other works still pending.

Art Exhibition: SCENT OF ART – When scent becomes art

Born from a spontaneous moment of shared curiosity, an interdisciplinary project has emerged: artists, an architect, designers, a photographer and perfumer Joschka Klee combine their expertise to create a sensory art experience.

At the heart of the project lies the interplay between space, light, art and scent. Klee’s specially composed fragrances Canvas and Creation unfold at various locations in Basel before merging into an olfactory artwork in Schauraum B – the scent of art.

This immersive installation is shaped by artworks from international artists, brought together in a large-scale exhibition at Schauraum B.

In the popular Bachletten district, just a few minutes' walk from Pauluskirche and Spalentor, lies Weiherweg. Directly across from Schützenmattpark, we had the opportunity to carry out the core refurbishment of a charming five-and-a-half-room apartment on the eighth floor of a high-rise building from the 1950s. Having significantly aged over the years, the apartment combined design elements from the 1950s and 1980s. After a renovation period of just over six months, the apartment now shines in new splendor, offering a panoramic view over Basel. Please find more informations here.

Invitation: Architecture of Expo 2025 Osaka on March 18, Schauraum B invites you to an exciting evening dedicated to the architecture of Expo 2025 in Osaka. Architect Fujimoto Sou designed the visionary master plan for the exhibition site, where 150 nations will present their future concepts under the motto "Designing Future Society For Our Lives."Switzerland will also be represented with a pavilion designed by Basel-based architecture firm Manuel Herz. Last week, we were involved in assembling the pedestrian bridge on the Viollier AG campus, where employees will soon be able to move effortlessly from one building to another. Even though construction and renovations are our daily business, a pedestrian bridge is always something special, requiring millimeter-precise work. It’s a fascinating spectacle when five-ton steel beams are placed with absolute precision. Check out the drone footage here...

We are delighted: In June, HORTUS – the House of Research, Technology, Utopia, and Sustainability – will open on the MAIN CAMPUS of the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area in Allschwil. Also part of the concept is a state-of-the-art coworking space on the first floor, where we are contributing to the tenant fit-out with our work. Renovation and Refurbishment of the First Two Nearly Identical Apartment Buildings on Bäumlihofstrasse in the Popular Hirzbrunnen District. Bäumlihofstrasse is located in the popular Hirzbrunnen district, behind the Badischer Bahnhof in Basel, and leads towards Riehen. In this well-connected area, just a few minutes’ walk from the Lange Erlen recreational area, we had the opportunity over the past months to renovate and refurbish the first two of four charming, nearly identical apartment buildings. Exhibition: The Art of Sascha Berretz & the Legacy of Werner Blaser

Some of you may know: Werner Blaser, father of our company’s founder Christian W. Blaser, was a renowned architect and publicist. He gained nationwide recognition for his publications and studies on the relationship between architecture and design across various cultures. Architecture photography was also one of his great passions.

Inspired by Blaser’s work, Aachen-based artist Sascha Berretz has created his own unique artworks, which we are excited to showcase in collaboration with GALERIE FREITAG (Aachen).

During this two-day exhibition, we will present Berretz’s pieces alongside a selection from Werner Blaser’s extensive furniture and book collection.

Last year, Campus Bildung Gesundheit opened in Spenglerpark and, as some of you already know, we were able to assist with various measures, including part of the refurbishment and fit-out. Everyone can get an idea of this place for themselves at the Open House on April 27, where, in addition to guided tours and short presentations, various information stalls invite to keep up to date on topics such as nutrition and health.

The reorganisation of the hundertpunkt restaurant in Spenglerpark is in full swing. Katrin Belz from our team is revitalising the restaurant space by enlarging the seating area, using a folding sliding wall to keep it flexible (space for separate events), and replacing or refreshing the floor, lighting and wall colours: we are taking numerous other smaller and larger measures to ensure that hundertpunkt is up-to-date again, e.g. by optimising the acoustics, improving the checkout situation to optimise the flow of people or creating a lounge area by the coffee counter. We look forward to the restaurant shining in new splendour and will keep you up to date.

After 30 years, the longterm tenant moved into a retirement apartment so that we were able to renovate the beautiful old apartment with courtyard garden. Walls, floors, ceiling, bathroom and balcony as well as the electrical, plumbing and heating installations were renewed. We dismantled the good old Foster steel kitchen, let it spray paint, equipped it with new appliances and thus made it fit the re-use way for the next 20 years. The new tenant is delighted to live in the original old apartment with contemporary interior design and we are pleased to have sustainably renovated this charming apartment. We are always proud that we have kept the ability to plan and implement small, medium and large projects in our office with equal dedication, quality and expertise. The wide variety of project sizes is one of the peculiarities of Blaser Architects.
