For the Swiss energy supplier Primeo, an existing office space in Münchenstein was comprehensively reconfigured and adapted to the requirements of contemporary working environments. The focus lay both on the conceptual reorganisation of the floor plan and on the energetic and climatic refurbishment of the existing structure.
Built in the 1960s, the building tended to overheat on the upper floor, particularly during the summer months. To address the issue of insufficient insulation, a cooling ceiling system was implemented in combination with rammed earth materials, enabling a natural, condensation-free regulation of the indoor climate. In addition, automated blinds now respond to solar radiation, providing efficient summer heat protection and controlled light management.
The interior was also fundamentally rethought: the previously cellular office layout, including a corridor zone with wood-finished lockers – characteristic of 1960s typologies – was transformed into an open, contemporary working landscape. By opening up the floor plan, a new sense of spatial generosity is created, while still maintaining clearly defined zones and departmental structures. So called quiet booths and a glazed meeting room provide spaces for focused work and undisturbed conversations, combining the need for exchange with transparency and acoustic separation.
The overall concept is complemented by a carefully developed colour scheme in soft sage green and muted cinnabar red. A bright communal area with kitchen offers employees a space for breaks and serves as an informal meeting point.
In its entirety, the refurbishment combines functional, climatic and design-driven aspects into a contemporary office environment. Through a deliberately applied colour concept, targeted greenery, and an open floor plan that nonetheless provides zones and retreat spaces, the result is a relaxed and modern working atmosphere.
