YARA Apartment House

The Gotthard is still one of the most important north-south axes in Europe. The small village of Andermatt is located precisely at this junction and, despite its striking location, remained untouched by tourism for a long time. This is set to change with the construction of numerous vacation apartment buildings, which are part of a comprehensive tourism initiative. The aim is to establish Andermatt as an attractive destination for winter and summer guests. We were also involved in this major project and were entrusted with the construction of the YARA apartment building as architect and general planner.

Our guiding principle for this project was to combine tradition and modernity in order to create a harmonious whole between contemporary living and traditional, rural architecture. For this reason, we opted for a wooden shingle façade that blends harmoniously into the landscape thanks to its material properties, aesthetics and historical significance.

The interior, characterized by soft lines and warm materials, forms a successful contrast to the powerful and rustic architecture. The 24 apartments offer open-plan living areas and quiet retreats. The two-storey penthouses on the 5th and 6th floors make optimum use of the room height of the folded roof and open up fascinating perspectives thanks to the crystalline floor plan. What all the apartments have in common is the view of the impressive mountain landscape.

The living concept is rounded off by a spa with sauna, steam bath and terrace, which offers residents a stylish retreat in which to relax.
