Novartis Campus WSJ-182

Blaser Architekten / Butscher Architekten were the local architects for the office and laboratory building in the Novartis Campus area of the design architect Rahul Mehrotra (RMA Architects) from Mumbai and Boston. The Virchow 16 building features state-of-the-art open-space laboratory and multi-space office facilities, which were developed in collaboration with Rahul Mehrotra and a large planning team.

The Virchow 16 laboratory building is based on the conviction that buildings should be orientated towards familiar constants such as people and nature and should blend in as well as possible with their natural surroundings. In this project, the reference to nature was established through a green façade and a green space in the atrium.

The building offers over 200 workstations and is organised into two zones. In addition to the two basement floors, the first zone extends over the ground floor and the first and first floors. Laboratories, services and the visitor centre are located here. The second zone consists of several storeys with a central atrium planted with tropical plants in the centre, which connects laboratories, offices and communal zones across the various storeys. This structure encourages communication between the different office and laboratory floors. The façade facing the park to the west is also covered in greenery.
